About Dr. Fynboe
Originally from upstate New York, Dr. Scott Fynboe was born
in the middle of a snowstorm at the tail end of “Generation X.”

Dr. Fynboe holds a Ph.D. from the University of Southern Mississippi, as well as degrees from
Binghamton University and SUNY Broome Community College. His academic background is contemporary American and British literature, with a concentration in creative writing. He is more known, though,
as an American pop-culture scholar with a deep passion for cinema and how cultural properties “evolve."

To date, Dr. Fynboe has written critical pieces on the use of antiheroes in superhero films, feminism in
The Nightmare on Elm St. series, and “alternative” Santa Clauses in Christmas music. Currently he is working on pieces exploring the aesthetics of Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees, and music videos as contemporary lit.
His poems have appeared in The Los Angeles Review, Drunk Monkeys, and The Sow’s Ear Poetry Review.
He has also led workshops on writing and performing narrative poetry at IRSC’s annual Writer’s Day event.
Beyond writing, his creative activities include performing in many stage shows and at least one TV commercial.
However, his favorite “performance” was as a college radio DJ at WHRW-FM in Binghamton.

As of 2023, Dr. Fynboe lives with his spouse in Fort Pierce and, when not teaching, enjoys his vast record collection, watching movies, playing Fallout76 and Dungeons & Dragons, and occasionally going to the beach.
He was also adopted by two cats, Hef and Hikari.
